Samsung Electronics is immersed in collaborating with OpenAI, and this seems like a reversal. After momentarily restricting employee access to tools like ChatGPT over safety reasons, the South Korean technology giant is diverging. It plans to roll out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex across its work startup. Under a new alliance with OpenAI, Samsung is availing enterprise-grade access to generative AI for numerous employees, positioning artificial intelligence as a substantial productivity platform rather than a risk. This change represents how Samsung aims to achieve innovation with regulation as artificial intelligence adoption flourishes.
How Did Samsung’s Stance Change?
Samsung’s new move depicts a shift from its early strategy. Prior to this, the company banned the usage of generative AI tools like ChatGPT on company devices due to cases of misuse. Workers in one of Samsung’s largest divisions were aware of the ban following reports that sensitive code was uploaded to ChatGPT, which was confirmed further.
This led to massive internal concerns. In a company survey conducted last month, 60% of the participants said that they were concerned about the safety risks associated with generative AI adoption. Samsung also issued a stern advisory to the employees against entering personal or company-related information into generative AI tools and cautioned them when using the services outside work.
Despite these constraints, the company evaluated how generative AI could be used in a controlled manner. The new adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise depicts the result of that check. Instead of banning artificial intelligence, Samsung is choosing a safe, enterprise-centric version created to operate in accordance with the company’s regulations.
Under this collaboration, ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex will be embedded for all Samsung Electronics employees in Korea, as well as employees worldwide within the Device eXperience (DX) division. Samsung’s worldwide adoption is described as one of the largest OpenAI enterprise launches till now.
The execution applies to both technical and non-technical staff, depicting Samsung’s ambition to make artificial intelligence comprehensively accessible, according to OpenAI. This approach positions artificial intelligence as a proprietary-centric platform for efficiency, research, innovation, and context.
“This historic development for OpenAI is essential because the company is embracing AI not as a tool limited to certain teams or functions”, said Harrison Kim, emphasizing the scope of the rollout.

What Are Samsung’s Plans Regarding ChatGPT and Codex
Samsung Electronics will inculcate ChatGPT and Codex across various sectors, including software development, product development, manufacturing, marketing, and corporate functions. With ChatGPT, employees can perform contextual tasks such as analyzing and searching for information, developing ideas, understanding data more efficiently, and drafting documents.
ChatGPT Enterprise offers proprietary range capabilities such as data security, user and access management, and safety guardrails. These features allow the workers to regulate advanced artificial intelligence tools within the company’s existing secure policies and proximity, addressing the prior concerns.
Codex, which is a software development tool, is placed as a comprehensive productivity tool. It will assist developers with reviewing and debugging code, while also helping non-technical teams to turn thoughts into software, websites, and sovereign workflows. More than 5 million people use Codex for technical and non-technical workflows, with weekly active users in Korea growing near 800% since February 1, 2026.
The idea of embedding ChatGPT Enterprise leads to a flourishing collaboration with OpenAI. The two organizations collaborated on a worldwide AI infrastructure, with Samsung supplying advanced memory semiconductors. Seoul National University started using ChatGPT Edu for its student community, while OpenAI has also worked with Kakao to integrate ChatGPT into KakaoTalk group chats.
