Key highlights:
- Graphics card manufacturers are telling distributors to focus more on older GPUs since new models are getting hard to find.
- The GeForce RTX 50 series is in short supply, and prices are rising, so vendors can’t keep up with demand.
- Older cards like the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, RTX 3060 8GB, RTX 3050, and various AMD Radeon models are now being promoted as alternatives.
- Two main factors are making things worse: rising mining demand and big e-commerce sales in China.
The graphics card market is facing supply problems again. Manufacturers are starting to push older products, since the newest models just aren’t available in large numbers. According to the latest reports, NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series is especially hard to find right now, leaving vendors struggling to fill orders. With limited inventory and prices going up, manufacturers are now urging distributors to rely less on the newest GPUs and instead look to the last generation to keep sales moving.
ChannelGate shared that some GPU makers are telling their distribution partners to look at other models to fill the gap. This means more attention on the RTX 30 series and older AMD Radeon graphics cards. At the same time, rising VRAM and component costs are making it even harder for vendors and shoppers alike, driving prices higher.
Manufacturers Are Turning Towards Older GPUs as RTX 50 Series Availability Remains Limited
The main reason for this shift is pretty clear: new graphics cards are just too scarce. RTX 50 series cards are especially hard to get, with some manufacturers almost out of stock. In some places, there’s barely anything left for vendors to sell, so everyone’s options are shrinking fast. What’s making all this worse is cryptocurrency mining demand and in China, major e-commerce sales are boosting demand even higher. More buyers are competing for fewer cards, and that has made it nearly impossible for makers to keep up a steady flow of the latest GPUs.
As prices for the RTX 50 series climb, the problem gets worse. Higher VRAM and component prices are making these cards more expensive, so manufacturers are starting to look at their older products as a way to keep distributors stocked and customers happy. Instead of only chasing RTX 50 series shipments, vendors are starting to ask distributors to pay attention to other options that could help keep things available while supply of the new models is still uncertain.
GPU distributors are being advised to focus on older graphics cards as supply problems continue. According to ChannelGate, vendors are recommending RTX 30-series GPUs and older AMD Radeon cards This could push demand and prices for older GPUs even higher. https://t.co/SgYEAoVXKe

RTX 3060 12GB, RTX 3050 and Older AMD GPUs Could Help Fill the Supply Gap
Among the cards getting more attention, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060 lineup is in the spotlight. Manufacturers are saying distributors should keep a close eye on the RTX 3060 12GB and 8GB versions, the RTX 3050, and select older AMD Radeon models. The RTX 3060 12GB stands out as a popular budget pick, it’s already in millions of gaming PCs and remains a go-to for gamers who don’t want to pay higher prices for the newest cards. Stores have even started stocking it again to meet demand while the latest GPUs are scarce.
As for specs, the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB comes with 3,584 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory bus. The 12GB of VRAM means it’s well-suited for gaming at 1080p and 1440p. The October 2026 Steam Hardware Survey also shows the RTX 3060 as the most popular graphics card. That says a lot: even as RTX 50 series get pricier, people are still sticking with last-gen models.
But just because older cards are back in focus doesn’t mean they’ll stay cheap for long. As demand rises and component prices stay high, prices for these alternatives are also expected to stay the same or even rise over the next few months. Distributors will need to watch stock closely across both NVIDIA’s older GeForce cards and AMD’s Radeon lineup. With new GPUs hard to get, these older models will become more important for keeping the market supplied.
