Anthropic is expanding its footprint in India with the official opening of a Bengaluru office and a series of partnerships across enterprise, education, and agriculture. The move comes at a time when Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei has landed in New Delhi for the big India AI Impact Summit 2026.
At a time when India is emerging as one of the largest and most technically advanced markets for Claude.ai, the company is hinting at its long-term commitment to the country. Nearly half of Claude’s usage in India involves complex computing and mathematical tasks, from building applications to modernizing systems.
“India represents one of the world’s most promising opportunities to bring the benefits of responsible AI to vastly more people and enterprises,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India, Anthropic. “Already, it’s home to extraordinary technical talent, digital infrastructure at scale, and a proven track record of using technology to improve people’s lives.”
Expanding AI impact across languages, enterprises, and public services
Anthropic has even worked to address the linguistic diversity of India by improving its models in 10 widely spoken languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. The company is also partnering with Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to test Claude on local tasks in agriculture and law. Nonprofits like Digital Green and Adalat AI are also supporting the company in this initiative. The massive collaboration looks to make models more fluent in Indic languages while keeping them relevant to business and social needs.
Claude’s adoption has grown rapidly in India, and numbers tell the same story. Air India, which is one of the biggest airlines in India, now uses Claude Code to accelerate software development, while CRED reports faster feature delivery and better test coverage. Cognizant is also deploying Claude to modernize systems for 350,000 employees globally. Among startups, Razorpay, Enterpret, and Emergent are integrating Claude into risk, operations, and AI-powered software platforms, driving significant growth and efficiency.

Education is also a focus. Anthropic’s collaboration with Pratham and the Central Square Foundation brings AI-powered learning tools to underserved communities, while Adalat AI aims to improve access to legal services for millions of citizens. In agriculture, the OpenAgriNet project leverages Claude to deliver expert knowledge at scale, highlighting AI’s potential in public-sector impact.
Anthropic has also contributed the Model Context Protocol to the Linux Foundation, which allows both government and private organizations, such as Swiggy, to connect AI systems to authoritative data. The Bengaluru office, Anthropic’s second in Asia, will focus on hiring local talent across enterprise, startups, and AI research roles, reinforcing India’s position as a hub for applied artificial intelligence.
