Key Highlights:
- OpenAI is reportedly offering the ChatGPT Plus plan for free to US users, according to a post spotted by Bleeping Computer.
- The offer is limited to one month and is available only to existing ChatGPT users, not new sign-ups.
- ChatGPT Plus usually costs $20 per month and unlocks extra features, including access to Sora and Codex.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT is the undisputed AI assistant in terms of user base. The company boasts that about 700 million monthly users are active on ChatGPT, where they get their queries answered and do a lot more that increases their productivity.
However, in the recent past, some industry data has suggested that ChatGPT is some web traffic to Google’s AI assistant, which is now powered by Gemini 3. That’s the same model that forced OpenAI to release its GPT-5.2 earlier than expected. Earlier today, reports came in that Google’s Gemini has entered a three-year sponsorship deal with the IPL, worth nearly ₹270 crore. Google is clearly aiming to maximize Gemini’s visibility around the globe, given the popularity and massive viewership of the IPL and cricket in general across the globe.
U.S. users get to grab free one month of ChatGPT Plus for a limited time
Meanwhile, OpenAI, which offers ChatGPT under three subscription models in the US, is looking to attract more users towards its AI assistant. Folks over at Bleeping Computer have spotted a post on X by user Tibor Blaho, who also happens to be a prominent ChatGPT tipster.
According to the tipster, OpenAI is now offering the ChatGPT Plus plan to US users for free right now. However, the offer is reportedly capped for the first month, and that too for existing ChatGPT users. If you want, you can opt out of the plan before the month ends to avoid the fee of $20/month, which renews automatically.

This isn’t the only offer OpenAI is running at the moment. ChatGPT Go, the affordable plan that was initially introduced in India, is currently free for Indian users for a year. To catch you up, OpenAI also recently launched the “Go” plan in the US, which starts at $8 per month. However, the offer in question is related to the $20 per month ChatGPT Plus plan. If you haven’t subscribed yet, this might be the right time to get extra features, including access to Sora and Codex.
Ads inside ChatGPT
Speaking of ChatGPT, let’s not forget that OpenAI has confirmed it will start testing ads for U.S. users on the Free and Go tiers. The company also mentioned that ads won’t be visible to subscribers of the Plus, Pro, and Enterprise plans, as well as any users under 18 years of age. OpenAI will begin testing ads in ChatGPT in the coming weeks and months, though the exact rollout date remains unclear.
As far as company news is concerned, Elon Musk’s feud with OpenAI and Microsoft took a dramatic turn last week, as a new report claims that the xAI boss is seeking up to $134 million in damages from the lawsuit he filed back in 2024.
