Augment Code Introduces Itself as a Developer AI for Teams

Details about the initial trial of Augment Code are live, with an invitation for developers to try it out. The team has described Augment Code as a developer AI that can essentially be used for real-world software development. It is built on the basic offering of explanations and spotting mistakes. 

Augment Code extends its functions to cover relevant challenges like complicated APIs and lack of documentation at the time of joining, migration, and refactoring. The objective is to boost the scalability of software coded by teams without skipping a beat.

Augment Code is designed to be aware of the context. This means that it can interact, complete, and suggest depending on the codebase that has been architected for final execution. It works as an IDE extension and can be utilized for multiple purposes, including chat, code completion, edits, and Slack.

The chat functionality forms a ground for developers to ask necessary questions and get their answers. This helps to hunt down a bug, which can later hamper the performance. Code completion is an in-line code suggestion that can be considered to quickly get over with the task. 

Developers can alternatively choose to shut it down and craft their path in development. Suggestions for edits are similar to it, except Suggested Edits review the work instead of looking ahead.

Finally, Augment Code in Slack connects to the Q/A box even when the team is not online. Discussions can be carried out to complete the task, courtesy of the Augment Code.

The privacy angle is more handy, for Augment Code ensures that AI models are not trained on a customer’s proprietary code. This prevents infringement and, hence, lawsuits. It also serves as a team player, allowing admins maximum control over its functions. 

For instance, they can view detailed usage metrics and the completion acceptance rate. Admins can further customize the team size as the pricing model considers every user every month. Admins should pay $60 for every developer only when he or she is working on the project using Augment Code.

Backed by Meta, Google, and NVIDIA alumni, among other tech giants, Augment Code has received much positive customer feedback.

Merrick Christensen, Principal Engineer at Webflow, applauded its contextual aspect by saying developers can ask about unknowns and adding that answers are indeed insightful. 

Jan Baryła, Engineering Manager at Handoff, appreciated a similar function by saying that developers don’t have to accept auto-completion only to delete their part later – meaning that Augment Code takes the already written code into account before suggesting anything under auto-complete.

Christophe Plat, Engineering Manager at Pigment, said the response generated by Augment Code blew them away.

Developer AI for teams, Augment Code, is available for trial by teams looking to give it a shot. The estimated monthly price per user is $60; however, developers can seek clarification.
