Nokia Strikes Partnerships With 20+ Global Internet Exchange Providers

Nokia Strengthens Global IXP Infrastructure With Advanced Solutions Portfolio

Espoo, Finland – 30th September 2024 – Nokia has solidified its leadership in the global Internet Exchange (IXP) sector, partnering with over 20 leading IXPs, including six of the world’s largest in terms of traffic and connections.

By providing cutting-edge optical and security solutions, Nokia is transforming the standard of performance, security, and sustainability for IXPs.

Nokia’s portfolio is becoming a new norm for the industry, with 23 leading IXPs signing contracts to use its solutions. According to Equinix’s 2024 Global Interconnection Index, quoted by Nokia in its press statement, the top IXPs using Nokia’s infrastructure can handle close to 45 Tbps of peak traffic, a number that is expected to increase by 34% by 2029 as the world’s interconnection bandwidth grows. This has led to the top IXPs preferring Nokia’s IP, optical, and security solutions for its unparalleled performance and sustainability.

These innovations include the Nokia FP5 800GE technology, offering the industry’s fastest performance and reducing power usage from 0.8 watts/gigabit to 0.1 watts/gigabit in some parts of the network. This technology has been adopted by Europe’s leading IXPs, such as Germany’s DE-CIX and the Dutch provider NL-ix.

Furthermore, IXPs such as Telehouse America’s NYIIX have overcome technological limitations with Nokia’s state-of-the-art Ethernet Virtual Private Networks (EVPN). Akio Sugeno, the Vice President of Telehouse and founder of NYIIX called the solution a “game-changer” as it enabled a unified architecture, better load-balancing techniques and increased resiliency.

Additionally, Nokia partnered with NL-ix to deploy an industry-first anti-DDoS solution that enhances security by directly thwarting cyberattacks on the router without increasing latency or transmission costs. Vach Kompella, Nokia’s Senior VP of IP Networks, remarked that Nokia’s innovations have reset expectations for uptime, reliability, and security, making it the leading infrastructure provider for the world’s largest IXPs.

To date, Nokia has secured contracts with IXPs that face increasing latency, security challenges, and bandwidth issues. Nokia’s comprehensive offerings and partnerships with the top Internet Exchange Providers position it as an industry leader as it helps IXPs boost their infrastructure for the global digital economy’s varied demands.
