OpenAI no longer seems to be treating ChatGPT as an AI assistant that talks to people and get their queries answered. Earlier this year, the company brought shopping experience to ChatGPT. Now, OpenAI has announced personal finance experience in ChatGPT. The announcement comes just a day after the company baked Codex into ChatGPT mobile app.
Now, you must be wondering, what OpenAI is trying to achieve with ChatGPT’s new personal finance experience, right?
ChatGPT Pro users in the US get personal finance experience
As part of the new experience, OpenAI is allowing “Pro” users in the US to securely link their bank accounts to ChatGPT, and ask finance-related queries related to their financial data. OpenAI says that once the bank accounts are linked, ChatGPT creates a dashboard that includes your spending habits, subscriptions, portfolio performance, upcoming payments, liabilities, and much more.
Giving examples, OpenAI notes that you can ask ChatGPT for advices related to saving more money, planning your new home purchase, or about investment risks. ChatGPT then provides answers by analyzing your financial data.
The company further adds that the personal finance experience in ChatGPT supports over 12,000 financial institutions through Plaid. It also confirmed that support for Intuit is coming later down the line. That said, the company wants you to understand that this new experience isn’t a replacement for professional financial advice.
Explaining more about the feature, OpenAI also adds that ChatGPT now includes “Financial Memories.” It will apparently include your saving goals, details of loans, future purchases, and your lifestyle priorities. All this allows ChatGPT to offer you custom recommendations.

You can always remove connected bank accounts
Considering the sensitive nature of the feature, OpenAI also allows you to remove linked bank accounts anytime. Once removed, synced data gets deleted within 30 days, which also prevents temporary chats from accessing your financial information at all. OpenAI is rolling out personal finance experience in ChatGPT to “Pro” users in the U.S. across web and iOS, with a wider rollout expected later down the line.
