The PUBG and other prominent games’ developer from South Korea, called KRAFTON has now immersed itself into the future of video games. They unveiled their new innovative idea known as Co-Playable Character {CPC} at the Consumer Electronics Show CES 2025 in Las Vegas. This innovative NPC created in partnership with NVIDIA and based on generative AI is a breakthrough for the video gaming industry.
KRAFTON and NVIDIA cooperated and on January 8th it revealed advanced technology at the largest IT show in the world at Fontainebleau Hotel. NVIDIA ACE (Avatar Cloud Engine), On which this partnership resides also includes some concepts of menage over the use of artificial intelligence in videogames.
Kangwook Lee, who is the head of Deep learning division in KRAFTON Inc had spoken of CPC which is not the same as NPCs as is generally understood in video games. According to Lee, CPC is a character included in the NVIDIA ACE package together with a Small Language Model that is included in the device and used solely for gaming. CPCs differ from the traditional NPCs typical in the video games where these characters are programmed to perform in a predetermined way and cannot change. This includes enactive communication, utilitarian actions based on play and verbal dialogues based on play contexts.
As Lee went on to elaborate, CPCs or player-centric technologies cannot be a fashion that can be just easily shrugged off by KRAFTON, in favor of the next trend, but a strategic plan for supported eSports in the coming years that will be instrumental to its players. The firm aims at including the CPC technology in its most successful video games such as the PUBG IP Franchise and inZOI for enhancing new records of games’ interaction. Lee also mentioned that NVIDIA is one of their top partners and this partnership shows how much AI is disrupting the gaming space and they are committed to doing more with the firm.
During the event, KRAFTON presented live video demonstrations on how they have implemented the CPC tech into their games through a brief PowerPoint presentation. In particular, they introduced a new addition under the PUBG IP Franchise dubbed ‘PUBG Ally’ which entails the use of Artificial Intelligence settings to enhance game play in players. This character can respond on a general basis, make decisions based on the actions players make and customize the game for them in real time in order to provide the players with a thrilling time.
In the same line, the inZOI simulation game introduced a new and tough character called ‘Smart Zoi,’ who possessed unique personality and even emotions. This extra layer of complexity allowed for an incredibly immersive experience, as players could interact with Smart Zoi as if she was a real person that they were concerned about. These demonstrations also offered a direct view of how the CPCs have the potential of manipulating what happens between the players and characters within the game; especially to the extent of confusing reality from fantasy.
The visitors of the CES 2025 Consumer Electronics Show got the chance to try the integrated gameplay of CPC through the demonstrations that were provided by KRAFTON and NVIDIA. This experience enabled the participants to observe some of the issues of the technology at first hand and form a platform for the discussion of the future of artificial intelligence in gaming.
KRAFTON’s initiatives to introduce the CPC technology evidenced their passion and desire towards revolutionizing the gaming market. As developers of generative AI and NVIDIA’s ACE technologies, their plan is to push interactivity and immersion to new heights. Having adopted the CPC tech into their gaming platform, KRAFTON remains positioned to transform the gaming industry and redefine the aspect of player interest.
KRAFTON and the whole gaming business can remember 2025 as a very significant year mainly because of the extremely successful CES. When alongside demonstrating how AI can contribute and thrive, KRAFTON also showcased through the use of the CPCs (Character Performance Capture) technology, an essential possibility of what it would mean for virtual game characters to become a valuable sidekick to a player.
