YouTube has introduced a new range of gen-AI tools for creators at its “Made on YouTube” event. The updates, which are largely focused on its Shorts format, aim to simplify the video creation process and help creators develop content faster than ever.
The new features are part of a broader push by Google and its parent company, Alphabet, to integrate AI more deeply across their platforms. The announcement follows a number of recent moves, including the wider rollout of multi-language audio for creators and updates to Google’s Veo 3 AI video model.
New AI Features Simplify Creation
The highlight of the new tools is the integration of Google DeepMind’s Veo 3 Fast generative AI model into YouTube Shorts. Creators can now generate short video clips with sound from simple text prompts, making it easier to create backgrounds or B-roll footage. The tool is free for creators in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, with other regions to follow.
Beyond text-to-video, YouTube is adding more advanced AI-powered editing features. The platform is introducing an “Edit with AI” tool that can transform raw footage into a “compelling first draft.” The tool intelligently selects the best moments, adds transitions, music, and even a contextual voiceover in English or Hindi, giving creators a solid starting point for their videos. A new “Speech to Song” feature, powered by DeepMind’s Lyria 2, will also allow creators to turn dialogue from a video into a catchy soundtrack for their Shorts.

In addition to these creative tools, YouTube is enhancing its creator analytics. A new “Ask Studio” feature will provide creators with a conversational AI partner in YouTube Studio. This tool can analyse a creator’s channel data and offer personalized insights on video performance and audience behaviour.

YouTube’s Plan for AI Content
The new features align with YouTube’s recent strategy to democratize content creation using AI. Earlier this year, the platform rolled out its multi-language audio feature to all creators, a tool that helps them reach a global audience with translated audio tracks.
Google also recently announced significant updates to its Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast models, which now support vertical video formats and offer higher-resolution 1080p output. These updates are a clear signal that Google is committed to making its AI models more accessible and optimized for mobile-first content like Shorts and TikTok videos.
YouTube stated that all AI-generated Shorts will include SynthID watermarks and content labels to ensure transparency and responsible use. The company is positioning these new tools not as a replacement for human creativity but as a way to lower the barrier to entry and enable new forms of storytelling.
