Grok AI has been upgraded with new models where it can now animate images into realistic videos, including audio tracks. The feature is now available directly in the X app. The release was announced by Elon Musk on X (formerly Twitter). Previously, the video generation abilities were only available in the Grok AI chatbot and Grok Imagine portals, but now have been introduced directly in the X app.
Generate Videos Directly on X App
The latest version of the X app on Android and iOS has introduced a new option where you can long press on any image to animate it into a video. You can also add a text prompt to customize the final output of the video as per your creativity. Currently, Grok can generate videos to a maximum of six seconds with audio included.

Grok or Elon Musk have not shared any details of the model that powers the features. There was also no comparison with OpenAI’s Sora or Google’s Veo models. However, X is the first mainstream social media platforms to introduce a feature that allows users to modify images from other people into a video. But this also raises safety and privacy concerns as AI-generated videos can be spoofed to create deepfakes and other harmful content.
Grok AI’s policy mentions that it has safety filters built into the tool that prevents its usage from generating harmful, or explicit content. However, it also offers the liberty to generate media of popular icons, stars, and even politicians. The tool sits on a fine line between its ideology of free speech, and protection of its users.

Limits of Grok AI Video Generation
Grok AI has set some limits based on the tier of X that you use:
- Free users gert up to 6 seconds of videos.
- X Premium subcribers can generate videos up to 15 seconds.
- Paid subscribers also get access to NSFW and spicy mode, but that too has some built-in protection against deepfakes and popular celebrities.
Compared to Sora and Veo, the duration limits opf Grok AI are quite limited. However, the larger availability of Grok Imagine to all users gives it an edge, compared to standalone apps from OpenAI and Google for the same function.
