Google Veo 3 September Update

Key Highlights –

  • Veo 3, Google’s latest video generation model now lets users create upto 1080p videos in landscape mode via the Gemini API.
  • Additionally, users can also create 720p 9:16 format ratio videos for social media.
  • The model also made its recent debut on Google Photos app with 8 second silent video.

In a recent announcement, Google shared the details of the new Veo 3 update. The AI video generation model is now live with 1080p resolution and 9:16 vertical video format apart from other new changes.

Divulging more details in its developer blog, Google unveiled a new lower pricing for Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast. Both the models will be able to create vertical format videos, making it really useful for content creators.

What’s New in Google Veo 3 Update

To those who aren’t preview to Veo 3, the AI video generator was released as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s Sora. Launched mid-year, the model was a successor to Veo 2, and used to create high-quality videos in a range of subjects, capturing fine human expressions and object interactions. Unlike its predecessor, which was more like a high-quality GIF generator, Veo 3 introduced native audio generation.

Even though Veo 3 could generate 4k videos but its output via Gemini was restricted to only 720p. That is no longer the case with this new update, as Google has now lifted that restriction by a few notches, letting the model generate 1080p resolution videos. Users need to set the ‘resolution’ parameter to ‘1080p’ to use this option, which however, works only for the 16:9 aspect ratio format. This is applicable to both Veo 3 and Veo 3 fast models.

Google also shared how the models can now create vertical clips which are perfect for social media or mobile-first use case. The tech giant shared how users can go about it –

With Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast, you can now set the aspect ratio to 9:16 so that you can generate vertical format videos that are perfect for mobile-first and social use cases. Just set the ‘aspectRatio’ parameter to ‘9:16’ and you’re ready to go.

A sample output of a vertical format video generation can be seen below.

Showcasing Veo 3’s interoperability amongst its AI Studio, Google also shared that it could be integrated with Gemini and Nano Banana’s image editing capabilities to create ‘multimodal media simulations.’

Recently, Veo 3 also made its integrated debut in Google Photos, wherein it could help turn images from users camera roll directly into a 4 second video. While available to all users, paid subscribers with Google’s AI Pro and Ultra plans could generate more video clips than their free counterparts.

Veo 3 Gets More Affordable, Cheaper

In an attempt to make the state-of-the-art video generation model more accessible to users, Google has made both Veo 3 and Veo 3 fast cheaper. For Veo 3, the California tech giant now charges $0.40/second which was earlier $0.75/second for video and audio output using Veo 3. Similarly, for Veo 3 Fast model, the price has dropped from $0.40/second to $0.15/second. Both these prices are now in effect, confirming the same in the blog.

Google’s AI Mode Gets Five New Languages

Google also officially launched its AI Mode, to five more languages, hoping to include more diverse users for the same. The new languages include Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese.

Considering how understanding of local information is prerequisite for adding new languages, Google aims to make its AI mode relevant as it expands language support. In other recent headlines, Google also rolled out Material 3 Expressive design for Pixel devices and Pixel Watch.
