Meta is throwing in some more AI into Facebook, as if it hasn’t already had so much of it. Today, the company announced that it is rolling out new features on Facebook that are powered by Meta AI. According to Meta, the updates are meant to make it easier and more fun to express yourself in your profile pictures, Feed Posts, and stories.
Multiple preset animations for Facebook’s profile picture
As part of the latest AI update, you will now be able to animate your Facebook profile picture. Basically, you can turn a still photo into a playful animation in seconds. Facebook presents multiple preset animations, like natural, party hat, confetti, wave, and heart. Based on what you are feeling, you can update the animation. Notably, Meta will bring more animation options throughout the year.
To get the best result, Meta recommends using a photo that features a single person facing the camera, with their face clearly visible and without holding other objects. The photos you want to animate can be selected directly from your camera roll or from ones you have already uploaded to Facebook. Once Meta AI animates your photo, you can share it to your feed and view it in your profile.
Moving on, a new feature has been introduced called Restyle. The feature allows you to transform the aesthetic of an image in Facebook Stories and Memories using preset style options or your own text-based AI prompt. So how does it work? Once you upload a photo to a story or view memories to share, you can tap Restyle and use Meta AI to adjust it. You can also choose from “Styles (like anime or illustrated), Moods (like glowy), Lighting (like ethereal), Colors (like cool or pink), and Backdrops (like beach or cityscape).”

Text posts won’t be boring anymore
All this while, Facebook has predominantly been known for photos, videos, and Reels. Text posts don’t get much recognition or views. Meta has found a way to boost that as well. Going forward, you can now animate the backdrop of your feed text posts, which makes them look more fun and expressive. You can do so by tapping the rainbow icon to select from multiple still and animated backgrounds, like falling leaves or waves. Meta has assured that it will drop seasonal backgrounds in the future, so your posts can feel timely, festive, and a little more fun.
