OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has entered into a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems for its next-generation AI infrastructure. This collaboration is designed to provide the computing power needed to train and run OpenAI’s future large language models. The AI giant shared that this move will enable the company’s long-term plan to scale its AI capabilities, in a direction towards superintelligence.
The partnership is an extension of the deep-rooted collaboration between the two companies, which dates back to OpenAI’s early years. According to a joint statement, the two firms will work together to align their respective product roadmaps, focusing on co-optimizing OpenAI’s software for NVIDIA’s hardware. The initial deployment of the first gigawatt of systems is scheduled for the second half of 2026, and will utilize NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform. This partnership also complements the ongoing work both companies are doing with other key collaborators, including Microsoft, Oracle, and SoftBank.
The Broader AI Race for Power
This deal underscores the intense competition among tech companies to secure the massive computational resources required for advanced AI. As AI models become larger and more complex, the demand for powerful GPUs and specialized hardware has skyrocketed.

Given NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI hardware space, OpenAI’s access to its cutting-edge technology will help chase the leadership position in the race.
Ever since OpenAI revised its agreement with Microsoft, the AI giant has gradually transitioned to become a public benefit corporation (PBC). The company also signed a deal with Oracle “to purchase $300 billion in computing power over roughly five years,” making it one of the largest cloud computing deals ever, as per a Wall Street Journal report.
Previously, both OpenAI and Oracle revealed their partnership to build data centers worth 4.5 gigawatts of power as part of the broader Stargate project. According to the report, OpenAI’s contract will begin in 2027.
Other Recent OpenAI News
After a successful stint with ChatGPT Go in India, OpenAI on Tuesday rolled out the inexpensive ChatGPT Go subscription plan to Indonesia. Priced at Rp75,000 ($4.50) per month, the mid-tier plan is a strategic move by the ChatGPT owner to capture cost-conscious users, competing with its rival Google and its AI plans in Southeast Asia.
In other previous news, OpenAI was in headlines due to a high-profile teen suicide case, which allegedly involved ChatGPT. To mitigate problems which may arrive with the issues’ persistence, the AI company shared its plans to implement new parental controls that will allow a guardian to link their account to a teen’s.
This feature will enable parents to set rules for age-appropriate behaviour, disable memory and chat history, and receive notifications when the system detects a teen is in a state of “acute distress.” OpenAI stated that in cases of potential self-harm, the system would attempt to contact parents or authorities.
