Google has announced it will soon introduce its flagship image editing model – Nano Banana, across Search, Google Photos, and NotebookLM. Currently, the tool can only be accessed from the Gemini app or website. The upcoming update will let you transform images using AI directly in Chrome, Google app, Lens, and more.
This move comes at a time when Google is facing immense pressure in the AI media generation space. OpenAI recently opened access to its Sora video generator to its free users, driving people away from its rival Veo 3 platform. The strong push by Google in integrating its in-house AI tools across its ecosystem apps could help them reach a broader audience, especially those who do not use services like Gemini separately.
Nano Banana Integration in Search: Why it Matters
The Nano Banana model can edit and transform any image with a simple text prompt, and provide realistic and high-quality photos. While the tool got an excellent word-of-mouth with the recent retro-style saree edit trend, people are still looking at it as a fun-tool instead of a utility service. The new update will let users access it directly in Search and Lens in the following ways:
- One-tap access to Nano Banana in the Google Search bar on smartphone, desktop, and other portals.
- Transform any photo in Google Lens (both Android and iOS) while performing a normal image search.
- Using the Create Mode in Lens to easier access to Nano Banana.
All three methods will offer the same functionality of Nano Banana. It will be available to all free users, and paid subscribers of Gemini AI Pro plan will have access to higher limits.
While the update won’t bring any new features, the primary objective, as mentioned by Google, it to reach to more users. The company also showcased a demo where you can quickly use Google Search to get the interior of your room redesigned, with a simple image and a text prompt.

Google says that it will bring six new styles to video overviews in NotebookLM. These will include artistic illustrations in styles like watercolour, anime, and more. to make learners more comfortable with a certain topic. The update will also bring a new format called Brief, which will generate a quick summary image from verified sources for your ongoing lesson to provide quick insights instead of long-form answers.
However, the company has not shared any additonal details on this, and the exact rollout schedule is also not known at the moment.
Integration with Google Photos
Google Photos already has support for text-based image editing, but the fearture is powered by its Imagen model. The new Nano Banana model has proven to be more accurate, and generates realistic images. Hence, the company is bringing it directly in Google Photos. However, Google says that this integration willl happen over the upcoming weeks, and there is no demo available on this.
Google says the integration of Nano Banana across Search, Lens, and other services will happen over the upcoming weeks. It will be rolled out on Android, iOS, desktop, and other platforms. Users will always have the option to access it independently in Gemini.
