Google is rolling out a new revamp update to Google Play Games, which will give its players a Steam-like profile amongst other new features. This will be made available to gamers on both Android and Windows platforms starting September 23. However these changes will take place on October 1, for the EU and UK region.
Google has already begun notifying users via email about the upcoming changes. The new profiles will include “gaming stats and milestones” from games installed from Google Play, as well as new social features.
With this the tech giant is aiming to centralize its gamer’s identity and help build a more integrated community, a structure which is already existing for PC gaming platforms like Valve’s Steam and console like Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.
Play Games’ New Gamer Profile & What It Offers
The all new revamped profiles will provide gamers with a detailed overview of their gaming history. Unlike the current profiles, which only display achievements, the new version would be much more visible and interactive. Players will be able to see details such as total games played, hours logged, and specific in-game achievements. Google did not specifically reveal what new social functions would be introduced , but being able to follow other players and or share gaming progress might just be in the update.
According to a Google support page, the new profiles will enable “showcasing and tracking your game progress and stats” and offer “new ways to build your gaming community.” To power these features, Google will collect data on a user’s gaming habits, including which games they’ve played and for how long. The company has assured users that existing privacy settings will be honored, so if a profile is currently private, it will remain so after the update. However, users can choose to make their profile public to unlock the social features.
What’s News in Google
Apart from the “Steam-like” Google Play Games update, Google’s Pixel 10 series is currently the talk of the town. It’s new AI features include Magic Cue, Daily Hub, handful of camera features and more. Another useful feature which you may have missed is the Read Aloud feature.
In this, when a user takes a screenshot, an option of the same name as the feature pops-up. Upon pressing, a fullscreen player comes up with the complete “readable” text as the audio transcript, which is highlighted as one progresses.
Google had also announced support of over 80 languages to Video and Audio Overview in NotebookLM. But in a latest update, the NotebookLM Audio Overview has got another major upgrade.
