Google Pixel 10 series are the the talk of the smartphone town, and compared to its predecessor the device has been received well. But keeping the slight bump in the hardware apart, the majority of the credit goes to the new AI features introduced on the devices.

At the Made by Google event, the tech giant that the newly launched devices will sport a Google Tensor G5 processor. Interestingly, the processor is co-designed with Google DeepMind and can run Gemini Nano right on the device, opening a whole array of features for users. Here’s a quick dive at all the new AI features on Pixel 10 series.

Magic Cue – The AI Assistant We Always Needed

We’ve seen the transition from Google Assistant to Gemini on our Android devices as well as Google Home devices. But something always felt incomplete, and Magic Cue fills that gap perfectly.

Living up-to its self-explanatory name, Magic Cue understands the full context of what the user is doing and proactively suggests the next logical step. Say for example, if a user gets a text asking them to call a restaurant to change a reservation, Magic Cue will immediately present a button to call that specific restaurant.

While on the call, the feature will automatically displays the reservation details, like the date, time, and party size right from the calling UI. This eliminates the need to switch between apps and search for information, making the process seamless. And since this feature runs on device, the data is privately secured without having to worry for Google snooping around.

Daily Hub – Your Personalized Morning Briefing

Building on the proactive nature of Magic Q, the Daily Hub is a personalized morning briefing which aims to make information as accessible as possible. Be it summarizing the weather today or keeping you informed of upcoming calendar events, it covers it all.

Daily Hub pulls all relevant information from other apps like Google Keep, Gmail, and messages, and integrates them all into a single, easy-to-view UI. From here, you can tap on any item to jump directly to its source app. The Daily Hub also integrates with media apps, so you can pick up where you left off on your music playlist, as well as get updates on your personal interests.

Live Translate for Phone Calls

This is a futuristic feature that allows real-time voice translation during a live phone call. What makes it particularly impressive is that it mimics the sound of your voice, including inflections and tones, in the translated language. This makes the conversation feel more fluid and natural. The feature also provides a live transcript of the conversation with clean animations, and like other new features, it runs securely on the device, ensuring privacy.

Pixel Journal – A Google App to Log Life Events

Amongst several exciting AI features, Google quietly launched Pixel Journal. This new app could prove to be helpful to users for quickly logging life events. All in all it’s a simple journaling app where one can jot down thoughts, add entries with photos or videos, and integrate it with Health Connect data, and your location.

The AI then offers writing recommendations and insights from your entries over time. The app has a calendar view, so you can easily reference past entries and track your emotions. However, one might feel eerie, having an AI be able to access your feelings, thoughts and more, so you could choose to sit this one out if you feel.

Revamped Gemini Live

Google’s Gemini Live has been useful to have a video conversation about one’s environment, but it’s now gets much more interactive. Gemini Live now offers visual overlays that can both highlight and identify real-world objects in from your camera’s viewfinder.

What’s more is that the new native audio model, can detect the emotion in your voice, say for example – excitement or concern, and adjust its responses accordingly. With this Google is inching closer towards making in-app interactions much more dynamic and natural.

New Pixel 10 AI Features for the Camera

The Pixel 10 wouldn’t be a Pixel launch without some camera AI features. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s new in the camera segment:

  • Coach: Powered by on-device Gemini, this feature reads the scene user is trying to shoot and offers suggestions on how to improve the photo. For example it may suggest you the best angle, lighting, or camera mode based on the frame and subject. It could prove to be helpful for both beginners and experienced photographers.
  • Auto Best Take: This feature automatically initiates the “Best Take” function, which finds the best faces for your subjects whenever you take burst photos, ensuring everyone looks their best. It is pretty handy especially in group photos.
  • ProRes Zoom: An advancement from the Pixel 9’s Super Res Zoom, ProRes Zoom works up to 100x zoom on the Pixel 10 Pro series. The processing happens in 10 seconds or less and uses AI generation to create a usable and complete image, which is a solid jump from its predecessor.

With the G5 Tensor processor, Google aims to address users’ concerns related to privacy safety of their data. However cases involving AI chatbots being involved in suicide, apps such as journaling might not be taken in a good light.
