Google Photos Can Now Create 4 Second Videos From Any Image Thanks to Veo 3

Google Photos now lets you animate your camera roll with Veo 3 for free

Key Highlights –

  • Google Photos’ image-to-video creation feature will be powered by Veo 3 in this new update.
  • Upto four-second silent video clips can be generated for free users.
  • Paid ones, such as AI Pro and AI Ultra users get more generations.

Google has dropped yet another update, this time to its Photos app. The tech giant has put its video generation model, Veo 3 to work, as it now enables users to generate a 4 second silent video clip from any image. Earlier, Photos used to create videos using its predecessor Veo 2, but users will now enjoy higher quality clips thanks to Veo 3.

This feature is currently available only for users in the U.S., via the Create tab. Users with Google’s AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can generate more video clips while free ones have a limited number of opportunities.

How Does Veo 3 Work in Google Photos?

Google’s image-to-video allows you to add motion to your still photos. To do this, just choose the Photo to video option from the Create tab, select your photo and pick between two prompts – “Subtle movement” or “I’m feeling lucky,” to see your images come to life as short video clips.

Another option known as Remix, reimagines your photos in various styles of choosing. With this, you can turn any regular photo into an anime, comic, sketch or even 3D animation version of the original. There are more options you can read about in Google’s official blog.

Veo 3 was first introduced in Gemini for paid subscribers. However with this update, releasing it for Google Photos is a good strategic move, as users might get tempted to actually get the subscription.

Material 3 Expressive Design Arrives For Pixel Devices and Pixel Watch

Google recently launched a new design update “Material 3 Expressive,” for Pixel 6 and newer devices along with Pixel tablet and Pixel Watch. The update included new features including Lock Screen, Wallpaper Customizations, Status Bar and more. Along with it, the tech giant rolled out LE Audio Auracast, a feature which could be used to listen to broadcasts at Auracast-enabled venues.

Google is introducing new functionalities for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which were revealed at the Made by Google event last month. A key feature of this update is Adaptive Audio, which automatically modifies the volume according to ambient sounds and can diminish loud noises to safeguard hearing. Additionally, the update includes background noise reduction and allows users to answer or decline calls simply by nodding or shaking their heads.

For users of the Pixel Watch, a walking and biking navigation feature from Google Maps will soon be available on their smartwatches. This enhancement will enable hands-free navigation, allowing users to avoid searching for their phones or tapping their watches each time they need directions from Maps.
