India is undoubtedly one of the biggest AI markets in the world right now. Many of the US AI companies have their massive user base in India. OpenAI recently confirmed that ChatGPT has 100 million active users only from India. So you can imagine how important India is for every AI giant around the world right now. The country is also hosting one of the biggest India AI Impact Summit 2026, where some of the biggest names have landed in the capital city. Surprisingly, Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, has skipped the AI Summit keynote.
Reliance and OpenAI collaborate to bring ChatGPT-powered content search and recommendations to JioHotstar
While most of the user base in India rely on AI for automating workflow and creative aspects, streaming has been one of the departments where AI’s influence hasn’t been that much. But, that changes now, thanks to a new partnership between OpenAI and Reliance. The strategic partnership will help integrate ChatGPT-powered content search and recommendations to JioHotstar. The announcement was made at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi under the new partnership.
JioHotstar, the merged successor of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema, will introduce a ChatGPT-powered conversational search feature that allows viewers to find movies, shows, and live sports using natural language prompts. Whether you type or speak queries, the AI will suggest content based on context, preferences, and viewing history. The good news is that this feature will also support multiple Indian languages from day one.
This partnership will eliminate the hassle of traditional keyword searches and endless scrolling. Users can simply ask ChatGPT, like: “Something fun to watch with family tonight” or “Highlights from yesterday’s match.” ChatGPT will then give users related recommendations alongside contextual insights.
It is worth noting that the integration may also extend outside the app, with plans to surface Jio Hotstar recommendations within ChatGPT itself, which will create a bidirectional discovery between the streaming service and AI assistance.

The partnership between Reliance and OpenAI comes on the heels of AI ambition from Reliance and its telecom arm Jio, which together announced INR 10 lakh crore (~$110 billion) investment over the next seven years to build storage and AI infrastructure, edge computing networks, and affordable AI services in India. Since we are on the topic of AI, let’s not forget that the Adani Group has also committed $100 billion over the span of 10 years to expand renewable-sourced AI data centers across the globe.
