Microsoft Wants Teachers and Students to Use Copilot With These New Learning Tools

New Learning Tools in CoPilot

Key Highlights:

  • Copilot will let teachers create AI-powered tests, quizzes, and assignments for interactive learning.
  • Students can also use dedicated agents to perform research on niche topics.
  • A new academic tier of $18 per month will bring support for advanced Copilot features, including priority access to GPT-5.

Microsoft has announced a major upgrade in Copilot by introducing new learning tools for both teachers and students. Academic institutions will soon be able to use the advanced AI capabilities of Copilot to plan curriculum, create tests and assignments, and other study resources. Students will get access to a new AI agent to help them learn new concepts with reflective thinking, instead of just throwing summaries.

New Teaching Tools in Copilot

Microsoft is bringing a new Teach feature in Microsoft 365 Copilot where educators can use AI to offer an interactive learning experience to stdeunts. Teachers will have the option to set up quizzes, rubrics, and also design custom tests with multiple difficulty levels. The concept is similar to gamifying the learning procedure, making it more interactive so that students enjoy taking tests.

The demo showcased by the company highlights a comprehensive dashboard where teachers can customise an entire learning course by adding assignments, offering additonal study aid through videos and external sources, plan lectures, and more. It also offers a timeline of events, helping them track the progress of the course or semester.

The Teach feature will be available to all education customers from today, and it will soon roll out to Learning Management System (LMS) users as well.

Study and Learn Agent for Students

Gone are the days when teachers used to punish students for using AI in their academics, as Microsoft is introducing a dedicated AI agent to help them study. The Study and Learn feature will serve as an personal learning assistant where students can understand complex topics, practice numericals, or perform a detailed research on any topic. Instead of using AI tools to cheat, this new agent encourages students to leverage AI in learning new concepts.

For example, when a student is trying to understand a very specific concept, but its highly similar to some other popular topic, then it becomes difficult to search for it on the web as the top results are filled with SEO-optimised articles. In such cases, the student can precisely mention the needs to Copilot and get relevant information, without having to go through irrelevant pages.

The Study and Learn feature will be available as a preview starting November 2025.

Academic Tier of Copilot for $18

While the free version of Copilot is enough for most users, dedicated students often require advanced resources. Microsoft has announced a new academic tier of Copilot starting at just $18 per month, which brings access to GPT-5, advanced data analytics, higher limits, and more:

  • GPT-5 priority access.
  • Access to pre-built Microsoft AI agents.
  • Advanced data reasoning and analysis tools.
  • Full functionality of Microsoft Create
  • AI-powered search across Microsoft 365 apps.

It also brings unlimited access of Copilot across all Office apps like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. The academic offering of Microsoft 365 Copilot will be available from December 2025.
