The company will invest over $15 billion in this facility over the next five years to setup flagship level AI infrastructure. This hub combines gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure.…
The AI Hub will be developed by Google in partnership with leading Indian entities like Airtel and AdaniConneX. This infrastrcuture is being designed to handle top-grade Google products like Search, Workspace, YouTube, and others. It will also deliver low-latency services to businesses that are looking to develop their in-house AI-powered solutions.
The new subsea gateway will connect multiple international subsea cables to Vishakapatnam, which is the eastern coast of India. It will improve India’s digital connectivity with the core internet infrastructure of the world through these cables, which is highly essential for AI services. These new cables will also reduce the latency in cloud operations.
Google also mentions that its new AI Hub will be powered by green and clean energy resources. The company has partenered with local energy distrubutors in Andhra Pradesh for maximum efficiency.
India’s Entry in the AI Space
Google’s new AI Hub is not the only big thing happening in the AI space of India. A few days back, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also met India PM Narendra Modi to discuss the expansion of Claude AI services in the country. The company has also shown interest in the talented youth of India to empower its AI plans. Anthropic has also opened a new office in Bengaluru under the same plans.
Last year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also announced a new partnership with Reliance Industries in India to create new R&D centres and AI infrastructure. The plans are already in progress where Jio is using Nvidia’s advanced GPU architecture services for its backend IT services. Reliance is also developing new AI models focused on Indian languages to cater to the needs of locals, especially in the rural areas.
