Key Highlights:

  • Sony has been granted a patent for AI-generated, personalized podcasts that deliver console updates and gameplay insights to individual players.
  • The system would use gameplay data and could feature in-game characters as AI hosts, with customizable content like trophies, friend activity, and recommendations.
  • As with many patents, there is no confirmation the feature will be released, but it highlights Sony’s interest in AI-driven personalization on PlayStation.

In the past, we have seen many tech companies file patents to secure their product design, concept, or whatever they may be working on. Speaking of which, Sony has never been shy about filing patents for ideas that may or may not ever see the light of day. Over the last week, rumors around the buttonless PlayStation controller gained a lot of attention among gaming enthusiasts. Now, Sony has added another interesting concept to that long list, and this one is all about AI and personalization.

Sony wants PlayStation characters to host personalized AI podcasts for players

As first reported by Tech4Gamers, Sony has been granted a new patent that focuses on AI-generated podcasts designed specifically for gamers. The patent, reportedly filed back in July 2024 and later approved in late January 2026, talks about the concept of dynamically generated AI podcasts that update players about what’s happening on their console and are narrated using the voices of video game characters. Notably, the patent is titled “LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers,” which you can check here.

Sony, in the patent, mentions that it believes current gaming platforms lack a way to deliver truly personalized updates to players. Rather than offering generic notifications or pre-recorded shows, this system would generate a unique AI podcast for each user. When a player boots up their console, they could be greeted with a message saying something along the lines of, “Your personalized podcast is available for today.”

What makes this concept stand out is how deeply it is integrated into gameplay data. The podcast could pull information from recent sessions, trophy progress, friends’ activity, and system-level events. Interestingly, the hosts of the podcast could be characters from games the player has been actively playing. In theory, characters from entirely different franchises could even interact with each other in crossover-style conversations.

Custom AI podcasts sound promising, but will Sony ever release them?

The patent further outlines examples where AI hosts comment on friends earning trophies, suggest trying new games, offer gameplay tips, or remind players about software updates. Players could also customize what the podcast includes, choosing whether they want recommendations, friend activity, system news, or even lighthearted jokes at their expense. No wonder the concept is unique, but the question here is: will players like it? That’s something for the future to decide.

Moreover, as with every patent, there’s no guarantee this feature will ever roll out. But the patent has definitely offered us a glimpse into how Sony is thinking about AI-driven personalization on PlayStation, and how future consoles could blend gameplay, social features, and entertainment into a single experience.
